Job Description:

Thanks to the generous funding of the Canada Summer Jobs Program, the Highland Arts Theatre is seeking an Apprentice Sound Technician. The Apprentice Sound Technician will be responsible for assisting the production team in the planning and execution of technical aspects of all summer programming at the Highland Arts Theatre, with an emphasis on sound production and design.

 

The Apprentice Sound Technician is expected to:

- Work with the Theatre’s production team to ensure the proper maintenance, use, installation and storage of all sound and lighting equipment

- Assist production team in the set up and strike of each of the summer seasons four shows on a weekly basis

- Perform assigned tasks during pre-show, performance and post show as required by each production

- Work with creative teams to ensure that sound design needs are being met for each production

- Source sound effects, music and other media as required

- Run sound, lighting or projections as required

- Assist Front of House Team with patron services during the performance period, as required

 

Requirements:

- Must be aged 15-30 years and a full time student intending to return to their studies in the next school year (mandatory) 

- Organization, planning and an attention to detail

- Experience and comfort with heavy lifting (50 lbs min)

- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

- Ability to work with a team

- Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends

- Experience with PA, Sound Board, Mic and Speaker systems an asset

- Experience with sound design and Q-Lab an asset

- Experience with basic power tools an asset

- Experience in and enthusiasm for the arts and culture field is strongly encouraged

Job Description:

The Apprentice Promotions and Marketing Assistant will be responsible for assisting the artistic director and production team in planning and executing communication and marketing strategies for summer programming at the Highland Arts Theatre.

The Apprentice Promotions and Marketing Assistant is expected to:

•    work with the Theatre’s production team to establish critical paths for scheduling and marketing productions and events

•    assist in creating and organizing distribution of graphic design content for website, promotional material, and ads

•    coordinate ad buys in print and online outlets, as required

•    maintain the Theatre’s website and build the Theatre’s social media profile through Twitter, Facebook and other online channels

•    draft and distribute press releases, service media requests and pitch stories to media

•    draft and distribute e-newsletter to patrons

•    conduct programming-specific outreach to diverse ethno-cultural communities or communities of interest to build audiences, and lead participation in special audience building events

•    oversee surveys and data collection to develop outreach strategies

•    work with the artistic director to nurture relationships with the community

•    work with Production Team to maintain relationships with sponsors and ensure that terms of sponsorship agreements are fulfilled

•    assist Front of House Team with patron services during the performance period, as required

 

Requirements:

•    Must be aged 15-30 years and a full time student intending to return to their studies in the next school year (mandatory)

•    Organization, planning and an attention to detail

•    Experience with Microsoft Office applications, social media platforms and tools

•    Exceptional written and oral communications skills

•    Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
