Playwright/Director’s Notes:

When I began writing The Wakowski Bros. in 2010, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I was about to turn twenty, coming off of some minor successes, and looking to start another project. I had always been fascinated by Vaudeville, and particularly the oft unsung Vaudeville scene that was once vibrant in Cape Breton. It was the demolition of the Vogue Theatre that brought my interest to the surface. There seemed to me a strong parallel to be made, a universality that might transcend the specifics of Vaudeville and theatre to perhaps offer some small insight about relationships and how we shepherd the things we care about. It was also an excuse to write some really great puns. In the six years since, this play has evolved in more ways than I could have ever imagined, winning contests and awards and most importantly, making people smile across the country. Every production has been an experience and a learning opportunity, however I am perhaps the most proud of this version which nineteen months ago opened as the premiere production of the new Highland Arts Theatre. The rest is history. I will always remember one matinee we did at the very beginning which we performed for two audience members. Since then, the theatre has grown in more ways than I could have possibly imagined and I am so grateful to Cape Breton for that support. The Wakowski Team has been involved in many of our core shows, we’ve toured to Halifax, and we even have our very own CD (available in the lobby for only $10!), yet it is still so humbling and such a privilege to share with you one final time the show that started it all. Remember: Family is all we have, so we must have family.

Thank you for being our family. Wesley J. Colford
