The Highland Arts Theatre is always seeking to mirror the vast diversity of culture in the social fabric of Unama’ki/Cape Breton Island. Our work seeks to provoke discussion and redefine traditions of identity and character. Therefore, we encourage submissions from artists of all backgrounds, including, but not limited to, race, gender, body type, ethnicity, ability, and members of other under-represented communities. We welcome applicants to inform us of their pronouns and to include details about how their identity informs their artistic practice, should they wish.

CASTING BREAKDOWN

AUDITION CALL FOR MALE, FEMALE, & NON-BINARY ACTORS
(Ages 16 & Up with any level of experience)

This Fall, we will be hosting Video Auditions for anyone wishing to be considered for performing opportunities for the 2025 Fall Season at the Highland Arts Theatre. This is a general call to gauge interest and meet people. Call backs for specific roles may be requested, and all auditions will also be considered for productions throughout 2026.

You should receive a confirmation message that your audition was submitted, but we cannot commit to individual feedback at this time. If you don’t hear from us, you will still be in consideration for future projects.

THE LATEST HAT MUSICAL COMEDY PANTOMIME

Rehearsals: Sept 27 to Nov 17
Performance Dates: Nov 19-23, 2025

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Please submit 60-90 seconds of yourself singing a pop song of any era. We encourage you to find ways to introduce humour into your performance, or choose an unexpected context that shifts the original song into a fairy tale setting.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL
THE ANNUAL MUSICAL TRADITION

Rehearsals: Nov 29 to Dec 9
Performance Dates: Dec 10 to 14, 2025

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Please submit 60-90 seconds of yourself singing your favourite Christmas song of any era. You may also include a minute of Dickens text read as a monologue, if you would like to include a dramatic piece.

PLEASE NOTE: Only non-union performers will be able to be considered at this time.

THE CONFIDENTIAL MUSICAL THEATRE PROJECT #22

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Please submit 60-90 seconds of yourself singing a musical theatre song of your choice. If you are already submitting for PRICKED or A CHRISTMAS CAROL, you may indicate if you would like your song from either of those auditions to be considered for this as well.

PLEASE NOTE: Only non-union performers will be able to be considered at this time.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

For your video audition, please see the above requirements for each individual project. When recording your video, please use a karaoke track or piano accompaniment in your video.

All videos will be required to be linked to the below form as Unlisted YouTube videos. Have your video links ready before beginning to fill out the form.

Please include a recent photo or headshot (can be a selfie if necessary) and, if possible, a resumé of performance experience.
