The Highland Arts Theatre is always seeking to mirror the vast diversity of culture in the social fabric of Unama’ki/Cape Breton Island. Our work seeks to provoke discussion and redefine traditions of identity and character. Therefore, we encourage submissions from artists of all backgrounds, including, but not limited to, race, gender, body type, ethnicity, ability, and members of other under-represented communities. We welcome applicants to inform us of their pronouns and to include details about how their identity informs their artistic practice, should they wish.

CASTING BREAKDOWN
AUDITION CALL FOR MALE, FEMALE, & NON-BINARY ACTORS
(Ages 16 & Up with any level of experience)
This Summer, we will be hosting Video Auditions for anyone wishing to be considered for performing opportunities for the 2026 Summer Season at the Highland Arts Theatre. This is a general call to gauge interest and meet people.
Call backs for specific roles may be requested.
You should receive a confirmation message that your audition was submitted, but we cannot commit to individual feedback at this time. If you don’t hear from us, you will still be in consideration for future projects.

FOOL - The Hilarious True Story of King Lear

Rehearsals: May 19 to June 9
Performance Dates: June 10 to 14, 2026
PLEASE NOTE: This will be an ensemble-cast show with actors playing multiple characters across ages and genders. Characters of all ethnicities and backgrounds will be considered for this show, and performers who identify as trans, non-binary, LGBT+, Indigenous, and plus size are all strongly encouraged to audition as well.
NARNIA - A New Musical Adaptation from Bad Hats Theatre
Inspired by the Story by C.S. Lewis
Adapted by Fiona Sauder
Music & Lyrics by Landon Doak
Music Directed by Chris Tsujiuchi
Rehearsals: June 16 to July 7
Performance Dates: July 8 to 12, 2026
PLEASE NOTE: This will be an ensemble-cast show with actors playing multiple characters across ages, genders, and species. Characters of all ethnicities and backgrounds will be considered for this show, and performers who identify as trans, non-binary, LGBT+, Indigenous, and plus size are all strongly encouraged to audition as well.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
If you are interested in FOOL, please prepare one short Monologue from a play of your choice – your piece should be no more than 2 minutes. Please let us know the play, character, and playwright.
If you are interested in NARNIA, please prepare one Musical Theatre song from a show of your choice – your piece should be no more than 2 minutes. Please use a karaoke track or piano accompaniment in your video.
**NOTE: NARNIA will feature several performers who are actor/musicians so if you play a musical instrument, it is especially relevant for this production. Feel free to accompany yourself or include any additional videos featuring any instruments you would be comfortable playing in the production.
All videos will be required to be linked to the below form as Unlisted YouTube videos.
Please include a recent photo or headshot (can be a selfie if necessary) and, if possible, a resumé of performance experience.
