CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: HIGHLAND ARTS THEATRE AUDITIONS - MY FUNNY VALENTINE
AUDITION CALL FOR MALE, FEMALE & NON-BINARY SINGER/ACTORS Ages 18 & Up
This December, we will be hosting Video Auditions for anyone wishing to be considered for our upcoming production of MY FUNNY VALENTINE, a musical revue featuring the music of Rodgers and Hart. This four-person showcase will feature a host of music from the Rodgers and Hart songbook while telling the tale of the life and death of Lorenz Hart.
Four versatile performers will inhabit a variety of characters and roles and must be comfortable acting while singing with the possibility of some dance/movement.
PERFORMANCE DATES:
February 9-13, 2022
Rehearsals starting January 18, 2022
It is our hope to be able to continue live performances, however, we should note that pending provincial restrictions, all potential productions remain tentative. All actors submitting must be prepared to show proof of full vaccination and may be asked to commit to regular COVID tests if hired for this production.
All activities will be pending provincial health protocols and will be strictly regulated by our own COVID-19 procedures plan, based on national and provincial recommendations.

PERFORMERS OF ALL CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS, ETHNICITIES, FEMALE-PRESENTING GENDERS, & SEXUAL PREFERENCES ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT.
IN YOUR SUBMISSION PLEASE INCLUDE:
1) Recent photo (professional quality not necessary)
2) Theatrical or Performance Resumé (if applicable)
3) Links to prepared audition pieces.
WHAT TO PREPARE - VIDEO AUDITION:
Please submit videos for excerpts of 2 songs by Rodgers and Hart - one Up Tempo and one Ballad. Each song should be cut after approximately 32 bars or one minute.
You can choose any two songs you like, but feel free to choose from the examples given below. We prefer for you to sing to an instrumental or karaoke track or piano accompaniment.
While we of course want to hear your vocal range and singing ability, equally important is for us to see your ability to tell a story through the music. That is: what does your character want? Where do they start? How do they change by the end of the song? Is there a decision they have to make or a journey the song takes them on? Feel free to be creative with your choices.
Given the subject matter of the show (in regards to the legacy of Lorenz Hart), we are particularly interested in casting performers from the LGTBQ+ community. Performers must be comfortable with the possibility of some staged intimacy with people of various genders.
